Global Policy Forum’s Barbara Adams participated in the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), held in Sevilla, Spain from 30 June to 3 July 2025. Barbara spoke on numerous panels, one of which was the event on “For and beyond the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development” during the two-day Feminist Forum – organzed by the Feminist Workstream of the CS FfD Mechanism (co-lead by the African Women’s Development and Communications Network (FEMNET), the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), the Latin American Network for Economic and Social Justice (LATINDADD) and the Women’s Major Group) – held prior to the official events.
She cautioned of today’s overlapping crises fuelling inequality and insecurity, ranging from militarization to food, water, and health challenges, along with the danger of over-reliance on public-private partnerships incentivized by donors that threatens a rights-based approach to development. Barbara called for examining the decision-making structures within multilateral institutions such as the IMF and the UN Security Council, and argued that debt sustainability must be reconceptualized to include unpaid care work in debt calculations.
